Katia Maruja Lourdes Lungmuss de Muñoz
Katia Maruja Lourdes Lungmuss de Muñoz, born in Lima, Peru, in 1972, is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin, Germany. She works primarily in painting, crafting, and drawing and is best known for her bold and expressive portraits of modern artists. These portraits capture unique emotions and are inspired by specific music, using mediums such as marker and ink drawings on paper mounted on boards and acrylic painting on board employing impasto, wet-in-wet, and layering techniques. Notably, Lungmuss de Muñoz often incorporates her own body parts as stamps in her artwork.
Lungmuss de Muñoz’s art is deeply influenced by her personal experiences, including a traumatic event where she was held hostage by a psychopath. Art and music were crucial in her recovery, serving as emotional anchors and inspirations for her work. Her artistry aims to capture all the emotions she experiences, often juxtaposing contrasting feelings on canvas. Through her rhythmic ductus, she translates her emotional path onto the canvas, offering viewers a glimpse into her inner world.
Her artistic journey has taken her to various exhibitions and projects, both nationally and internationally. Notable among these are the exhibitions „Totem“ at Gallery BerlinBlue Art in 2018, „Berlin Faces I + II“ at Restaurant Chappinski in 2010/11, and „Home: a Journey to Identity and Belonging“ at ChromArt Gallery in Berlin, Germany in 2024. Her work has found a place in various private collections worldwide, a clear reflection of the profound impact of her artistry and its universal appeal.
